Self: A Labyrinth Called Identity

Kenny Baptiste | Writer

I feel that in our current day and age identity has become more of a topic of discussion compared to before. Personally, identity has been something that has been present in my life and honestly, I’m still trying to figure it out, but that’s not really a bad thing.

Trying to find who you are can easily be compared to that of a labyrinth. Each of us is on our own unique journey through it. There will be times in this labyrinth where we find a room where we feel comfortable and feel a sense of belonging, but as time changes, so do we.

Though we found that comfortable room, it may not stay comfortable and that’s fine. We as people have places, people, and things that we like at certain times of our lives that change as we get older and so does our identity.

Yes, there will be times where you're lost in your own labyrinth with no idea of who or where you are, but that isn’t something we should discourage. When we are at our lowest points, that's where we find our key to a new and comfortable place somewhere it may not have been before. I know for me, I haven’t found that key just yet, and it may be the same for you, but it doesn’t mean you won’t.
