“I don’t know when, I don’t know how but I know something’s starting right now!”

Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” live-action adaptation is nearly here, and after the trailer reveal at the 2023 Oscar’s, fans of the original have only been more eager to experience the new adaptation. It’s clear with its star-studded cast and acclaimed director Rob Marshall at the helm, the film promises to be an enchanting experience for audiences of all ages.

The cast of “The Little Mermaid” features Halle Bailey, part two of the Grammy-nominated duo Chloe x Halle, taking on the lead role of Ariel.

“Halle has this incredible facility to be able to dig deep, find the truth of Ariel’s passion and heart,” Director Rob Marshall said in an interview with Variety Magazine. “It was like watching a great film actor being born.”

The singer and actress is joined by a seasoned ensemble, including Lin-Manuel-Miranda as Le Chef Louis, Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, Daveed Diggs as Sebastian, and Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, a role promising to showcase the actress's range and talent.

One of the most anticipated aspects of the film is the music. The original film featured memorable songs like "Poor Unfortunate Souls" and "Part of Your World." The new adaptation is also expected to feature new arrangements of these classic tunes, as well as all new songs written by Lin-Manuel Miranda and composed by Alan Menken, who composed the music for the original film.

“I’m really excited for the film, I think it’s gonna be an event for Disney nerds everywhere,” said LCCC student Paige Knowles.

“The Little Mermaid” is set to hit theaters May 26, 2023, and fans of the original film are already counting down the days.
