Tucked away in a small corner of LCCC’s main campus sits a glimmery, red beacon that draws students to the WXLV Digital Media and Design Lab each day. Here, students gather to catch up on their studies, create one-of-a-kind media projects, and build lasting relationships.

“We really see this as a community space for students to gather,” said Wendy Barron, Professor and Coordinator of Media Communications. “It’s just kind of a festive place to be.”

Barron oversees the design lab. She hopes that all students can find comfort in the space and looks forward to seeing new faces utilizing the design lab.

WXLV offers spaces for students to study, network, or just relax. The space also houses a state-of-the-art digital recording studio, and voiceover booth. Additionally there is a broadcast and podcast space that is accessible to students on request. Students can even dabble in a new instrument with guitars and drum sets found throughout the studio space.

The lab also offers full-service tutoring in Adobe programs among other media-type software.

“I like helping out the students really in any way I can,”  Christopher “CJ” Jensen, a Computer-Generated Animation & Design major, said.

Jensen is a student worker at WXLV. He enjoys working on media projects with students and letting them be immersed in the digital media world.

WXLV is the home of the film club that meets each week on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The space provides an ample amount of room for students to network and engage with their peers.

Though the lab is aimed at digital arts majors, the staff has hope that students from all disciplines can enjoy this one-of-a-kind-space with the resources that are available. For students that are taking digital arts classes, the lab also offers cameras, tripods, and microphones available to borrow.
