The Arts and Scholars Showcase at LCCC is one of the many events the college hosts to highlight student accomplishments. The showcase, which occurred on April 21, combined first and second-year honors cohort students as well as those pursuing art majors.
It is an event that brings together students, faculty, founders, and families, highlighting student accomplishments by presenting their artwork and research posters for visitors to see.
Students also have the opportunity to collaborate with Lehigh University as part of their RE@L Scholars program, where they work with faculty and graduate students on scientific research.
For some students, like second-year Brynn Morgan, the showcase has a more personal meaning.
“I did my topic on multiple myeloma, which is a rare form of blood and bone marrow cancer,” Morgan said. “A really close family member was diagnosed with it a couple of years ago, and I wanted to do more research on it.”
For others, the showcase is a culmination of the skills learned throughout time spent on campus.
“It means an opportunity to showcase all the work, dedication, and ambition that I put into going to school here, into a physical representation of all my accomplishments,” second-year student Gabriella de Jesus said.
Co-coordinator of the event and Honors Scholar Professor Jennifer Myskowski says that the event is meant to value both the college and the honors program.
“Essentially, it’s a chance to take the most impressive research and writing that students have been doing, and offer it to others to share it with them.”
But the showcase is not a walk in the park.
“I hope that students struggled a little bit to put the posters together,” Myskowski said. “And when they’re actually in front of their poster, I hope they experience some of the nervousness of having to speak about their work, but also some of the pride that comes with having accomplished something you care about.”
Students who participate in the event do not go unrewarded. For a select few, cash prizes are awarded. These posters are chosen by judges, who meticulously review each poster.
Ultimately, the showcase is not just about the posters and prizes, but about the stories, ambition, and hard work that go into every project.
