Words from the Editor

Sophia Shuhay | Editor

Wow, where has the time gone? It seems like yesterday was the first day of freshman year here at Lehigh Carbon Community College. Well, sadly it is my last semester here, for I am transferring to Cedar Crest College next spring to pursue my passion for history! I am having a great time editing for “The Paw Print,” and I am going to miss it dearly.

Growing up, I never enjoyed writing. I always found it so stressful and, to be honest, difficult. I went into college promising myself that I would never take a writing class unless I was required to. I never knew how much I enjoyed writing until I took Professor Heimann’s journalism class last semester. I thoroughly loved it because I was able to write about things I was interested in! The journalistic writing style is challenging, yet so fun. I even decided to minor in communications because of that course! I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to edit for the school’s newspaper, and I never thought I’d be presented with such a role.

One of my favorite things about being an editor is how I get to see the creativity of each student seep into their papers as they write about something they enjoy! This class has taught me so much about journalism, writing, teamwork, and the perspectives of several different students. Although the role of an editor initially seemed overwhelming, I am so glad I chose to take this class. A word of advice from me to you: Never be intimidated by something you have never tried before, because hey, maybe you’ll end up loving it, just like me.
