The Craft of Juggling: Balancing College, Job, and Personal Life
Asatira Patterson | Writer
Juggling college coursework, a part-time job, and an active social life often feels like walking a tightrope. As a student pursuing a general studies degree while working as a canvasser, I know this challenge all too well. With classes to attend, assignments to submit, and a job that requires constant interaction with people, my schedule can quickly spiral into chaos. However, I’ve learned that effective time management is essential to maintaining my balance. Each day, I navigate this hectic landscape, discovering new strategies to prioritize my responsibilities while still making time for friends and self-care.
I consistently use a planner to map out each assignment for the upcoming week, a strategy that keeps me organized and focused. Whether I'm preparing for an entrepreneurship course, writing a story for my journalism class, or catching up with friends, having everything written down helps me stay on track. Additionally, I prioritize assignments that require the most effort, allowing me to tackle demanding tasks when my energy is highest and avoid last-minute anxiety.Of course, there are times when it feels overwhelming; socializing sometimes takes a back seat, and I’ve learned to communicate openly with my friends about my busy schedule so they understand why I can’t always join them. Ultimately, it all comes down to balance. Finding time for everything can be challenging, but with thoughtful planning and a bit of flexibility, I can achieve my goals without burning out.
