I was lucky enough to be able to attend the “Stronger Than Ever: An Afternoon of Resilience and Inspiration” presentation at LCCC on April 16th. This took place on the main campus and the keynote speaker was the incredible Isaiah Natale. His speech was on the hardships that he has gone through in his young life, and how they have only caused him to grow stronger. It was a very passionate and moving speech, and I was not alone in shedding a few tears during it.

After Natale’s speech, it was followed by Liz Lewis, and LCCC Counselor, giving a presentation on how to “Build Your Resilience Muscles.” She talked about how resilience is not just something that we are born with, but that it is something that needs to be grown and practiced.

Overall, it was quite emotional, and at the same time empowering afternoon, and I am so glad that I attended. It is so easy to make excuses on why not to attend events like this at college, but it is important to to come to them. This is for showing support to those giving the speeches, and for yourself. I feel that every time I attend events similar to this one I always walk away thinking about something or seeing something in a new way. To me that is the entire purpose of college, to expand your outlook and to learn to think about things from someone else’s point of view.
