“La Tribu Del Este - Orquestra” Returns to Their Musical Journey as a Community Latin Band

On Sept. 4 at 6 p.m. the first community Latin band “La Tribu Del Este- Orquestra” otherwise known as “The Tribe of the East” rehearsed at the Active Learning Center in Allentown, PA. Previously a high school Latin Band with different alumni that volunteered, they decided to rebrand themselves and continued their journey as a community Latin band. This clinic brought generations together, not only to learn about Latin music, but to spread the awareness of Latin culture.
La Tribu Del Este has several leaders that guide the band throughout their rehearsals, clinics, and performances. Staff member and co- founder of La Tribu Del Este, Enoel Sanitago has played in many different bands throughout his music career. Through his experiences in different musical groups, Santiago has developed an understanding of the importance of building strong relationships between band members and creating an environment where everyone feels comfortable contributing their own ideas.
“My plan for this band is to foster camaraderie before art,” Santiago said. “The best art is made in community.”
With Santiago’s vision of creating a welcoming community, Travis Ortiz hopes to carry on the band’s musical legacy while helping introduce Latin music to future generations. Travis Ortiz is another staff member and a trumpet player for La Tribu Del Este who has been playing since high school and has a long legacy of musicians in his family.
“After the band’s season as a high school Latin band, we wanted to take the name back and start something new,” Ortiz said.
La Tribu Del Este is rebranding to build on its legacy as a standout band and inspire future generations. Looking ahead, Santiago and Ortiz hope to establish a space in the Lehigh Valley where people can gather, learn about Latin-style music, and expand it into something that goes far beyond the music itself.
You can support the La Tribu Del Este by donating any used instruments for the band to borrow, following and sharing all of the events and clinics that they post on their Instagram account @latribudeleste_orquestra, and cash donations are accepted for their equipment, rehearsal space and more.
