Rolling Silverware

A few weeks ago I was promoted to become a server at the restaurant I work at, which has been a goal of mine for months now. But getting this promotion also means more responsibilities, including rolling silverware.
The first time fumbling around with the utensils was definitely not effortless, but as soon as you get into a rhythm it is very simple. I find myself in each shift for 20 minutes alone with my thoughts, continuously rolling silverware.
I’ve taken a recent appreciation for it though. Having no distractions and just being able to focus on one thing has been almost therapeutic for me. It's almost like a shower, giving me my best thoughts and ideas.
Taking a moment to not have to think about anything in particular has been something I’ve been chasing more recently. Whenever I am stuck in an idle moment, I make an effort to stay off my phone and to just soak in the environment around me and breathe.
I think that time like this is something that is missing from a lot of people’s lives, always turning to their phone instead of appreciating the time to themselves. It's a small change, but it has made me realize how much I used to fill up every gap in my day with a screen.
