Putting an End to Procrastination
If you are like me, you can sometimes fall into the trap of procrastination. It is a pretty common part of our lives, whether it’s rushing to finish an assignment, putting off going to the gym, or just simply making the bed. We can get so easily distracted that we think we can just put off the task at hand and get it done later. I have come to find out that, like most things in life, it is best to just do it and get it over with using your best efforts. Here are some tips on how to stop procrastinating, get the work done faster, and reduce your stress.
Tip #1 - Start the task, but take breaks - The Ziegarnik Effect tells us that we’re likely to remember more information (like when cramming for an exam), if we take breaks in between. Our brain is on alert until the task is finished.
Tip #2 - Focus on the more difficult tasks first - Doing the hard things while your brain is still new and fresh will make the tasks much easier.
Tip #3 - Believe in your ability - Remember to implement the necessary skills and strategies you have learned to navigate through the tasks.
Tip #4 - Control your work environment - Your workspace can be just as important as the task at hand. You can create a helpful work environment by getting rid of your phone or staying off social media.
Tip #5 - Give yourself short deadlines - Impending deadlines can get you going and make you more motivated.
