As the semester winds down and winter break is finally within reach, students everywhere look for a well-deserved time of rest. For some, it's a time to relax, sleep in, and recharge for the upcoming semester. For others, it’s a chance to pick up extra work or travel and see family. No matter your plans: it’s a much-needed break from school.

Still, for many students, the cold weather and holiday pressure can bring a sense of boredom and loneliness. If that sounds familiar, there are many ways to make the most of your winter break; no matter your amount of time or budget.

If looking for free time fillers, there are many options. Winter break is the perfect time to catch up on all the cozy holiday movies, new and old. During this time, food drives and local shelters are always in need of volunteers. Think about volunteering your time and effort to help those in need during the holiday season.

If looking for things to do with friends, winter is packed full with hobbies and activities to try. Try hosting a game night with friends, where you can stay in from the cold while still growing your community. If looking for outdoor activities; snowboarding, skiing, ice skating, sledding are all great options. There are also many new hobbies to try; painting, journaling, baking are all great options.

If looking for a short trip, or you’re comfortable with spending money there are plenty of fun things to do. Take a short trip to New York City in December and see the beautiful city in its winter state. If you’re looking for an adventure, plan a skiing or snowboarding getaway weekend. There are also plenty of concerts, indoor shows, and winter festivals to look into as well.

Whether your winter break is packed with plans, or it's more on the quiet side, remember that rest is productive. Winter break is the perfect time to recharge; mentally, physically, and emotionally before heading into yet another semester.
