I’ve always found something special about libraries. Growing up, I have many treasured memories of visiting them, from reading the Harry Potter books to renting The Muppet Movie on DVD. Libraries have always felt like more than just a place for books; they’re a place to connect, learn, and give back.
For students, libraries offer opportunities that go far beyond academics. They’re great spaces to unwind, explore different genres of literature, and even make a difference in the community.
This past summer, I volunteered at the Emmaus Public Library’s Summer Reading Club table, helping patrons sign up and chatting with other students who shared the same enthusiasm for reading. The library also offers year-round volunteer opportunities, especially shelving books.
The Lower Macungie Library also provides great ways for teens to get involved, such as joining its Teen Advisory Board where students can share ideas and help shape library programs.
Here on campus, the LCCC Rothrock Library plays a major role in supporting the academic success of students. Whether it’s finding reliable research materials, a place to study quietly, or getting help from the librarians, the resources here can truly enhance the college experience.
In the end, libraries offer more than knowledge — they provide a place for students to grow, connect, and feel part of a community. I encourage every student to take advantage of all libraries have to offer.
