With an abundance of new Halal restaurants popping up in the Lehigh Valley, there has been excitement surrounding the numerous locations that have opened their doors.

“It’s been quite some time since I've had really good Halal food around us,” said  Remzie Kurtis, after eating at Flaming Hot Halal Grill, located in Allentown.

Halal, in the Arabic language, are the things and practices not only lawful but permissible in the Islamic religion. This especially is in reference to the foods that practicing Muslims are allowed to eat. For example, pork is absolutely forbidden,  along with any other meat that is not certified as “Halal”.

Flaming Hot Halal Grill and Crispy Halal, both located in Allentown, have been a new rave for the locals, along with Haaz's located in Bethlehem.

Loyal patron and amateur food blogger Sahar Peera, an Allentown local, said, “It’s a blessing to have more restaurants open closer to us in the Valley, especially for our families that are expanding and having even more families coming in. This spot (Haaz’s) being one of them.”

For the Muslim families and communities in the Lehigh Valley, the new restaurants have made a big impact. For decades, there have not been many Halal choices. In the past, if you wanted good Halal options, you would have to drive to New Jersey or New York. The new restaurants reflect the growing diversity of the region by leaving a traditional, yet modern, twist to their menus, and have people coming back for more.
