LCCC Softball Gears Up for Another Successful Season

Cassie Sarnicky | Writer

Coach Rich Kessler is seen rallying the team before the first softball game of the season.

For many student-athletes, their high school sports teams were the source of much blood, sweat, and tears. Over the years, these students have played on their high school teams, dreaming of one day taking their talents to the next level. And here they are, ready to represent their school on and off the softball field.

MaryAnn Rush Wallace, EdD, Director of Athletics at LCCC, shared her excitement for the upcoming softball season.

“I am very excited about the season,” she said. “We have a lot of talent and feel we will be competitive. The team has been working hard getting ready for the season. We have some key players back from last season as well as some very promising newcomers. Once everyone gets to know each other and we get some more cohesion, we will be a very good team.”

Rich Kessler, the new softball coach, is looking forward to playing a role in the Cougar’s success.

“I am extremely excited to have been given the opportunity to run such a great program,” he said. “ I look forward to continuing and furthering the great success that we have had in the past. The future is very bright for this program!”

The sophomores will be missed, but Rush Wallace stated, “All eyes are on Megan Green as she dominated at the plate last year, crushing home runs, allowing her to be nationally ranked. Pitcher Sam Gruber amassed over 100 strikes and is back this year better than ever.”

Megan Green has big plans for the team.

“I plan on helping my team make it to the playoffs, trying my best to beat the home run record that I was close to beating last year, focusing on one game at a time, and being an all-around team player not just on the field but off the field as well,” she said.

With this leadership and mindset, Green will help propel the team to have a great season while still having fun. Cougar fans will be rooting for Green to break the home run record she was so close to beating last year.
