The Latin@ Leadership Club at LCCC is creating opportunities for students to come together, celebrate culture, and give back to the community. Meeting every Tuesday at 2:15 p.m. in Room 202A of the Academic Resource Center, the club invites all students to participate in activities that highlight Latin heritage and promote campus unity.

“Being Hispanic or Latin isn’t a requirement to take part in any of our activities,” said Maria Jimenez, secretary of the club. “Our club is welcoming to all and is dedicated to learning more about Latin culture together, as there are thousands of unique traditions and cultural ideas within the Latin community.”

The Latin@ Leadership Club teamed up with the Art Club to host a Día de los Muertos cookie-decorating event on Oct. 23. The collaboration offered students a creative way to celebrate the holiday while learning more about its cultural significance. Club members hope to continue working with other campus organizations to host future events that showcase Latin American traditions.

Club advisor Jennifer Hernandez-Reyes said the group’s enthusiasm and sense of community set it apart from the rest.

“I think our club is one of the ones that is truly all about community—not only because it is in our culture, but also because our club members are excited about meeting other students on campus,” she said. “We may be small, but we have a mighty heart, and I think that’s all it takes to really get things going.”

Looking ahead, the Latin@ Leadership Club plans to hold a donation drive and participate in community service projects across the Lehigh Valley. Students interested in joining can contact president Coral Alcantara-Gutierrez at calcantaragutierrez@mymail.lccc.edu for more information.
