A group of students gather in Berrier Hall, laughing as a blue rubber ball flies over their heads across the gymnasium. What may seem like a simple childhood game of kickball has become a popular way for students at Lehigh Carbon Community College to take a break from their busy schedules and connect with one another.

The intramural kickball league at LCCC offers students a chance to stay active while enjoying a fun, low-pressure environment, creating an easy way for them to connect outside the classroom. The league not only promotes physical activity but also helps build a sense of community on campus.

“I think it’s good for engagement and involvement," said Lacey Timony, manager of recreation and wellness.

Open to students of all skill levels, the intramural kickball league emphasizes participation and enjoyment over intense competition, creating a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for everyone involved. This relaxed approach makes it easy for students to have fun and stay active together.

“I look forward to coming here since it’s something that we can all interact in,” said Caitlyn Weed, one of the players.

Games are held regularly on campus every Thursday starting around 2:30 p.m., providing a convenient and accessible opportunity for students to get involved without needing prior experience or traveling off campus.

For many students, the league provides them with a healthy way to relieve stress from classes, work, and any other responsibilities. Instead of spending time worrying about assignments and exams, students can come together, enjoy each other’s company, and become part of a team. The relaxed atmosphere allows players to joke around, support each other, and build friendships throughout the few weeks.

Although the league is mainly focused on fun, there still remains a sense of competition that keeps each match interesting. Teams work together to improve their performance each week, with friendly rivalries often developing to further motivate the growth of skills. This balance between competition and enjoyment is what makes the league appealing to such a wide range of students here at LCCC.

Overall, the intramural kickball league plays an important role in each participating student’s life. It encourages them to stay active, meet new people, develop friendships, and take a break from the stress of college. Whether someone is looking to compete or simply have fun, the league offers something for everyone to enjoy.
