Interviewing Professional Sports Figures as a 15 Year Old

As intimidating as it may seem, having the opportunity to start living out your dream at only 14 is unbelievable. When I received the email that I had been selected as one of the 10 kid writers for Sports Illustrated Kids, I was over-the-moon.

When I started this journey in July 2019, I wasn’t expecting to interview top professional athletes and create friendships with so many people that I look up to. But now through the pandemic, I have had the opportunity to reflect on this journey. I have been reminded of how I need to be grateful for every new person I met.

I have had the chance to interview some of my role models like Jessica Mendoza, Jennie Finch, Alyssa Nakken, and so many more. If you watch someone broadcast or report on a sporting event, it may seem so scary. However, when you start doing something you love, you never look back.

While I haven’t been able to interview anyone in-person since last March, I have been able to continue interviewing athletes through FaceTime and Zoom. I can’t wait to keep chasing my broadcasting dreams as I embark on a new journey of hosting my own sports podcast. Remember to never let anyone tell you what you can and can’t do. If you have a goal, you can reach it, regardless of your age!
