Founded in the spring 2026 semester, the Student Advisory Council assists students in juggling the college experience while keeping up with high school demands. Although the council is in its early stages, its members have already made a positive impact on the LCCC community.

Shortly after the council’s formation, members volunteered at an elementary school book bingo where they collected more than 100 books and helped out during the event. They also hosted a swap store at the activities fair alongside the Pride Club and Latin@ Leadership.

Apart from traditional student organizations, the student council holds their meetings remotely. Despite the lack of physical presence, each council member pulls their weight in coming up with new ideas.

Addressing small problems is one of the ways the council advocates for the daily experience of early college and dual enrollment students.

The council has helped several students navigate the drop/add process.

“I kept using the wrong add/drop form and I felt like for dual enrollment that it was a very confusing process, and now there is a page on the LCCC website for dual enrollment that has the specific dual enrollment add/drop form linked,” said Jonah Nemitz, a dual enrollment student from Salisbury High School.

“It’s just an example that you can have an impact on something greater than yourself,” Nemitz said.

Aron Perez Morales, an early college student and valedictorian at Dieruff High School plays a larger role with the student council’s social media presence.

A few of the members, including Perez Morales, were asked to interview different student services and advisors with what they could do to help students.

Perez Morales interviewed Richard Paterick for insight on the Rothrock Library. This social media post mentioned the library’s resources, databases and included how this space is available to early college and dual enrollment students as well.

As the council continues to grow, applications for their second cohort will go live Nov. 9 and close Dec. 4. for the spring and fall 2027 semesters. Students are encouraged to email Jennifer Hernandez-Reyes, assistant director of high school connections, advisor, and founder of the student advisory council, if interested or with questions.
