A coffin lowers into a great field of flowers. The hero, distinguished and honored for his great feats, is laid to rest as the sun reaches out its golden rays to embrace him. As a female elf watches on, she looks bored. It is a sight she has seen a thousand times before, as everything but her has withered away. But for a second she thinks of the hero. And she wants to learn more, though now it is too late. Her heavy heart can take no more as she collapses to the ground. How could such an insignificant amount of time mean so much?
A scene like this strikes everyone. The mix of nostalgia and regret that most people have felt at sometime in their lives. In Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, appreciating your time is an integral part to the characters.
Media like this makes you think about the actions you have taken and inspires you to take less things for granted. Frieren specifically has led me to appreciate what I have more and love the people I know because nothing stays how it is forever.
Art will always be able to inspire and change us as we look inward to express who we are through our own artistic expressions. So give art a chance to change you, to make you think, and to make you cry. You learn a lot about yourself from viewing how others see the world.
