After 15 years, EA has finally released the newest addition to the Skate series, skate. Not Skate 4. Not even capitalized. Just skate.
It brings me back to the days of learning about video games. I would sit in the basement and have fun just by watching my brothers play Skate 3, until I was old enough to finally play on my own. Skate 3 was only released on console; but luckily for PC players, like myself, the newest installment in the series is also offered on Steam and the EA app.
The most major change to the series would be the addition of parkour. Not only does the player have to skate their way through the city, but they also have the chance to climb tall buildings and perform crazy stunts. Friends of mine have expressed indifference to this addition to the game, but in my experience so far, the parkour option hasn’t been much of a necessity to get around the city.
After logging nine hours in the game, only two days after release, I don’t have many critiques. If I have to pick on anything, I’d say that it may be too similar to the succeeding game, while lacking some aspects of true skate culture.
There are minor bugs and glitches that are expected for an early access game; however, EA is awaiting fan feedback before the official release.
