Between work, walks, and hardwood floors

For most college students, summer is spent working, sometimes close to full-time hours throughout much of the week. In doing so, many lose sight of what summer is all about–making memories and finding happiness within yourself.
I spent a lot of time working this summer and doing so made me feel a bit isolated from the things that made me happy. Despite that, I made sure that I made time for the people that matter most in my life. I made a deal with myself that I would create memories throughout the summer to boost my mental health.
I spent many nights line dancing with my best friend. I will never forget the night we drove to Bear Creek in the fog and then struggled to find the actual hall where they held the event.
While I am all for the laughs that come from forgetting an 8-count or a restart in a song, I will forever be grateful for the friend that I have dancing beside me. My camera roll will always be filled with our silly little videos.
Along with dancing, I have also made it a point to take walks. My partner and I began walking when we needed something to do. Being able to just take in your surroundings is something that I have noticed has helped me in stressful situations.
For me, summer has also been a time of introspection. I have learned that I can be a strong person for others. While I may not have all the answers for myself, I am able to offer a listening ear and sound advice. Remember that summer comes once a year; you do not have to have it all figured out. Make memories, be kind to yourself, and most of all, keep your people close.
