Behind the Tutoring Center: How it Helps to Help Others

William Marks | Writer

LCCC Students have access to a variety of resources. While the gymnasium or library may be more well-known, the Educational Support Center can be an untapped resource.

Located in room 150 in the Science Hall on the Schnecksville campus, the center offers free tutoring to all students seeking additional academic assistance.

“Some students come to tutoring to get ahead, but later in the semester we do see students who are falling behind,” says Alex Nguyen, Learning Specialist.

With all of the resources the tutoring center offers, the tutors themselves play a pivotal role. They are not only certified in their field but are also trained by LCCC.

Additionally, student interaction with the tutors is important to LCCC. Nguyen states that one aspect they look for in tutors is how they interact with students. LCCC even hires student tutors.

“[Student tutors] can relieve the pressure of students going into a new space,” Nguyen says.

Nguyen believes the center is a safe environment and wishes that students would take advantage of it more.
