Before my time at LCCC, I had been enrolled at Bloomsburg University as a psychology major. Growing up, I have always wanted to learn about people and the way they think.
While at Bloomsburg, I was able to take many classes that expanded my knowledge about the human mind. I wanted to go into forensic psychology, but I wasn’t completely sure if that was my dream job.
In one of my classes, I signed up for a trip to get a deeper look into a local prison. I hoped to gain some insight into what may be a potential career in my future.
When the day of the trip arrived, I was planning to get on a bus, but my professor rolled into the parking lot in his minivan. First red flag.
Walking into the prison, I was enamored by the amount of artwork that hung throughout the facility. I was told that all of this art had been done by inmates.
As we entered the art room, I was intrigued by the detail on their pieces. Each prisoner had a passion for a different vice.
One prisoner specialized in painting, specifically Marge Simpson. Each piece of artwork communicated a different message. It was so interesting!
Throughout the tour, I was met with information that made me think differently about my major. On the short drive back to campus, I decided that I had found my passion in something other than Psychology.
That passion is communicating.
