Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio (better known as Bad Bunny) has always used his platform to shed light on social issues, especially those happening in his hometown of Puerto Rico.
His latest short film, Debi Tirar Mas Fotos (I should have taken more photos) is no regular short film, but a powerful statement.
The film was a profound remark on the struggles that Puerto Rico is currently facing. It talks about the devastating effects gentrification, displacement, and economic inequality has on Puerto Rico and its people.
The film opens up with an elderly man reflecting on old memories of his hometown with his friend Concho. As they are sitting outside they discuss how different Puerto Rico is and how the place he once called home no longer felt like home.
Bad Bunny uses raw scenes to display the gentrification occurring and to start a conversation about how Puerto Rico is becoming a place for outsiders, while its residents are being pushed away.
Bad Bunny’s entire album talks about saving Puerto Rico. He recently dropped a new music video for his song “La Mudanza” where he emphasizes that he and his people refuse to leave his hometown no matter how much they try to push him out.
Bad Bunny’s short film “Debi Tirar Mas Fotos” was a cry for help, urging the people of Puerto Rico to take action before they lose their culture and community completely.
