Letter from the Editor

I am hard-pressed to believe it is already so far in the semester, and the year.  It feels like yesterday was the first day of the fall semester, and I had just started journalism. Nervously fidgeting in my chair on the first day of class, I would have never thought I would be one of the editors.

I have always had a passion for writing. I journaled regularly and spun fantastical stories. I even loved writing in school. I think I was one of- if not the only person- to enjoy writing research papers. A constant question was, “Is there a word limit?” I just wanted to write the most amount I could, all of the time.

As a communications major, I’ve taken a lot of writing and literature classes. Most never intimidated me, but journalism did. I was more than excited to start writing, but this style of writing was not something I was used to. I was excited to write about a myriad of topics, all of my choice, but I was nervous to get my work out there on the internet. I was truly challenged by journalism to look at writing a different way, and I am so grateful for that. I can now take a more critical look at other writing for other classes, and make my projects and papers even better.

I am so grateful for the opportunity to be one of the editors of the paw print this semester. It is an amazing opportunity to not only work on my time management but is a great way to see new perspectives. Looking at other student’s work has given me more perspectives not just on styles of writing, but outlooks on the world. It is a breath of fresh air to see, and I am so glad I can do this, and maybe even help other students along the way.
