LCCC held the first game of its new 6V6 intramural soccer season on Sept. 16. Students of all skill levels signed up their teams for the six-versus-six format, the newest addition to the LCCC intramural program.
The season runs through October and will give students opportunities to get active, start new relationships, and work out stress from the semester.
Lacey Timony, operations & events manager for athletics, intramurals, recreation, and wellness, put the league together and officiated its first game.
“We’re just trying to get people out, get them social, and give somebody something to do,” Timony said. “...the biggest goal is to have fun and be active.”
Players went head-to-head at noon on Sep 16. to face off in a competitive match. After the first game at noon, another followed immediately at 1 p.m. The league is set to have eight games over the next two months, and it will finish with a championship game on Friday, Oct. 10 at 11 a.m.
Students are excited to participate in the games for physical and social reasons and say the league has brought people together.
“I take online classes, so I may not have met most of these kids before; but now, through intramural sports, I can make some new friendships,” said Logan Thrash, who played in the second intramural soccer match.
Many opportunities have arisen with the addition of the intramural soccer league. All information about the new league will be posted on the Student Life Canvas course.
