How Early Work Experience Shapes Communication Skills: Lessons from Our Octoberfest Team

Ian Everett |Writer

The Country Junction has just officially hired 107 people for our upcoming Octoberfest. Country Junction hires nearly eighty employees between the ages of fourteen and seventeen. This is great as it means young teens can have a temporary beginner job to prepare them for the future. I know if I had not started working at the Country Junction at an early age, I would not have been prepared for what I do there now. If I never had to deal with difficult communication situations when I was twelve, then how would I be able to calm a belligerently drunk couple from destroying a chair when I am nineteen.

Learning how to deal with new and different communication situations has really helped me in becoming a better employee but also a better communicator. I used to be quiet and reserved, but now I honestly can't shut up if I'm in a conversation. I believe my constant urge to talk is simply a result of my job, where I’m always engaging with people. So, if anyone is struggling with communication try and get a job with a lot of one-on-one personal communication.
