Halloween Safety: Enjoy the Treat, Not the Trick

Kaley Martin | Writer

Boo! Another Halloween season is approaching us. Soon it’ll be the time to carve pumpkins, dress up, attend haunted houses, and so much more! While enjoying all these activities, we should follow a few tips to ensure our safety.

A majority of college students attend Halloween parties at the end of the month. If you or any of your friends indulge in drinking alcohol, be mindful of your consumption and know your limits. Make sure to guard your drink to avoid unwanted substances from being added. DO NOT get into a car while a driver is under the influence. Calling an Uber or Lyft can save a life.

If you plan on going out, it is imperative to implement a buddy system. Have at least one person to remain in contact with throughout the night. Try to share your location with a trusted friend or family member, so they are aware you are in a safe situation.

For those who have younger siblings and will be trick or treating, be mindful of where you are. Have a plan and let a parent or guardian know. Try to stay in familiar neighborhoods and only walk up to well-lit houses. Pay attention to your surroundings and if you feel unsafe, call someone to pick you up right away.

In this season of ghouls and ghosts, everyone wants to simply have fun. Yet, we must take all necessary precautions to keep everyone safe. Stay away from the tricks to enjoy the treats!
