As graduation day approaches, many high school seniors experience a shift in mindset as they prepare for what comes next. Along with the excitement of moving onto life outside of high school, there is pressure to finalize college decisions, complete assignments, and say goodbye to familiar routines. For some, this time is not just about ending high school, but about stepping into a new chapter with purpose and direction.
Judy Elfar, a senior at Dieruff High School, said she feels “happy and ready to start a new chapter in my life.” Rather than feeling overwhelmed, she explained she is excited to be a step closer to success.
Elfar also noted that having a clear plan for the future has made a difference in her mindset.
“I feel like I’m more motivated than before, because I now have a plan for my future,” she said.
Her plan includes attending Lackawanna College for four years to study business administration, followed by three years of law school to become a corporate lawyer.
While some students are focused on the future, others are reflecting on what they left behind.
Jason Gaton Guerrero, a graduate from Lehigh Valley Academy, emphasized the importance of the relationships he has built.
“I really miss seeing my friends every day and just enjoying those small moments,” he said. “School was like an escape, sometimes just being around people who could lift you up and make a bad day better.”
He also pointed out how graduation brings a major change, as students move from a structured environment into a more independent life.
For many seniors, this milestone is both exciting and emotional. Whether they are focused on future goals or holding onto memories, graduation represents a turning point as they prepare for the next stage of their lives.
