Fans Excited for Marvel’s “Across the Spider-Verse”

Marvel is releasing a new Spider-Man movie, “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” on June 2 across all theaters. Families and die-hard fans are excited as the release of the film approaches.

To understand the excitement towards this movie, some context must be given. The first movie, “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” tells the story of Miles Morales. Miles is a boy from Brooklyn who suddenly develops spider-like superpowers after being bitten by an abnormal spider. In his reality, however, the original Spider-Man (Peter Parker) is dead.

When talking about the movie, Phil Lord, the producer of the film, says in Collider, “[The movie] is definitely more insane.”

The inclusion of dynamic characters, bright colors and an engaging story all contribute to the “insanity” of the upcoming film.

In contrast, the first movie gained $384.3 million worldwide in revenue compared to their $90 million budget. It was highly acclaimed all the way from animation, characters, critics, etc. It is only a matter of time to see how the new one does.

In regards to the first movie, Lawrence Ware, a critic from Rotten Tomatoes, said, “This film manages the delicate feat of embracing its source material while also satirizing it.”

The comic-like animation style, and the story all form part of what represents this upcoming film. The representation comes from the diversity amongst the characters, and the expansion of the Spider-Man universe.

Spider-Man fans are expressing their anticipation for the upcoming film, with their own reasons for watching the movie. A few of them are going to watch it because they love Spider-Man, others just want to keep up with the different timelines that the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) creates.

Liam Gorecki, a film student at Kutztown University, considers himself to be a big fan of not only Marvel films but especially of Spider-Man.

“[The Movie] inspired and continues to inspire me to push the limits of how I use color and editing to make my characters and worlds unique,” Gorecki said.

The MCU prides itself on creating meaningful stories with inquisitive plots that catch the attention of the viewers.

“This is the most faithful Spider-Man story to Stan Lee’s original idea that anyone can wear the mask,” said Gorecki.
