As a communications major, I have heard it all, “Good luck, ” “what can you do with that degree?” “Will you even make money?” These comments can be discouraging.

For a while, I was afraid of other people's responses when I told them my major. However, I have learned to appreciate the opportunities this major offers. I have gained important skills like public speaking, communication methods, and presentation skills. In addition, I have gained learning experience in Journalism by being part of this amazing newspaper through CMN 250 and CMN 230 classes.

I want to encourage everyone to follow their dreams. There is no need to feel intimidated by other people’s comments, but it is okay if it happens. Just know that your major is not something to be ashamed of. Be yourself and explore new things.
