The Best and Worst Season of Survivor

Kenneth Wallace | Writer

Survivor is an American reality TV show hosted by Jeff Probst which premiered on May 31, 2000. Contestants must provide food and shelter for themselves. The contestants compete in challenges for rewards and immunity to guarantee safety of being voted off. With 41 seasons under their belt, it can be a hit or miss. Here are my favorite and least favorite seasons of Survivor. Proceed with caution: SPOILERS AHEAD.

My favorite season without a doubt is Season 40; “Winners-at-War.” What better way to celebrate the 20-year anniversary of Survivor than to watch 20 former winners go head-to-head? 20 winners return to claim their shot at another title to prove they’re the best of the best. It shows strong gameplay, and plenty of standout moments. It includes a great number of advantages and twists. It was a great way to celebrate the 20-year anniversary of Survivor.

My least favorite season of Survivor is Season 22; “Redemption Island.” This season brought back Russell Hantz, arguably the biggest villain in Survivor, and Rob Mariano, arguably the most well-liked contestant of all time. Mariano would go on to win the season, while Hantz would place 19 out of 20 due to being voted out after his tribe intentionally threw a challenge to get him out. On top of that, there was no strategizing when the tribes merged. Mariano ordered his alliance of six to not talk to the other contestants. It was always predictable who would be voted out.
